Site Setup and Configuration#

Plone configuration is done through control panels available in Site Setup.

Access Site Setup (Control Panels)#

Here we show how to access Site Setup and how control panels are grouped.

The personal menu lets you navigate to the site's control panels.

  1. Navigate to https://demo.plone.org/ and log in.

  2. Click on the personal menu button at the bottom left corner of the page.

  3. You can view the site's control panels by clicking on Site Setup.

  4. The site's control panels are grouped into categories, starting with "General".

  7. There is only one "Security" control panel:

  8. "Version Overview" displays the versions of components of your Plone site.

  9. "Add-ons" shows the version numbers of the add-ons installed on your Plone site.

  10. To exit the Site Setup view of control panels, click the left arrow button at the top left of the page.

Use the Add-ons Control Panel#

You use the Add-ons control panel to see the details of which add-ons are installed on your site and which ones are available to be installed.

  1. You must be logged in and you must have Administrator or Site Manager role to view control panels.

  2. Click the personal menu button.

  3. Click Site Setup

  4. Click the Add-Ons icon.

  5. This control panel lets you see which add-ons are available to be installed on your site.

  6. Scroll down to see which add-ons are already installed.

  7. Click the down arrow buttons to show details about an add-on.

  8. You can see the version of the add-on.

  9. Click the Install button to install an add-on if it is not already installed.

  10. Click the up arrow button to hide the details of an add-on.

  11. If the add-on is already installed, the Uninstall button lets you uninstall it.

    Beware: uninstalling an add-on may have unintended consequences!

  12. Click the left arrow button to exit from this control panel.

Use the Database Control Panel#

The Database control panel displays information about the database used by your site.

  1. Click the Database icon.

  2. The "Database main" table shows the location, size, and number of objects in the database.

  3. The "Total number of objects in each cache" table shows the number of objects in the database cache.

Use the Date and Time Control Panel#

The Date and Time control panels lets you change timezones and day of the week settings.

  1. Navigate to https://demo.plone.org/controlpanel. You must be logged in and you must have Administrator or Site Manager role.

  2. Click Date and Time

  3. You can change the site's default timezone.

  4. Click on the timezone field to display a list of choices.

  5. For example, click America/Bahia

  6. You can add or remove timezones that users and events can use.

    To remove a timezone, click its x button.

  7. You can set which day of the week should appear as the beginning of the week in calendar views.

  8. Click the Save button to save your changes.

  9. Or click the X button to discard your changes.
